Education Assessments – Inclusive Learning Profile

An assessment can provide insight into how  a child or young person experiences learning and they challenges they may have in visual and auditory  processing of information, literacy skills, memory difficulties, expressive and receptive language skills.

An assessment will identify challenges but also strengths and can  help a child understand and accept themselves and also help family and school to provide the appropriate support.  Sometimes this support can simply be an acceptance of a different way of processing, for example needing visual reinforcement rather than reliant on verbal delivery of information,  or it can be minor changes in how teaching and learning is accessed.  Sometimes targeted intervention, resources or accommodations are involved including exam access arrangements such as computer reader, extra time, rest breaks, use of a lap top.

This isn’t to give students special attention or an additional advantage but to level the playing field so they have an equal opportunity to learn and demonstrate their learning.  Assessments can be requested by parents, ideally with the support of school and shared information, or by schools or colleges.  Dependent on the need of each individual child or young person a learning profile, diagnostic dyslexia assessment or exam access arrangements assessment may be most appropriate and sign posting where appropriate will also be part of the assessment process.
